January 18, 2024. South County Unit meeting – Discussion with Sister Cora Rose about legal aid

issues for low–income/unhoused individuals in Curry County.

February 1, 2024. A documentary film about Oregon’s land use planning system co-sponsored by

the LWVCC Kalmiopsis Audubon Society and Curry Public Library. Shown at 5 pm to 7 pm at the

Curry Public Library, Gold Beach. Admission Free. Tell your friends!

2023 Unit Meetings

The November/December 2023 Central County Unit meeting took place on Friday, December 1st, starting at 4:00 pm. The group will meet in person at The Landing in Gold Beach.

The October 2023 Central County Unit meeting took place on Friday, September 29th, starting at 4:00 pm. The group will meet in person at The Landing in Gold Beach.

The September 2023 Central County Unit meeting took place on Friday, September 29th, starting at 4:00 pm. The group met in person at The Landing in Gold Beach.

The May 2023 Central County Unit meeting took place on Friday, May 12th, starting at 4:00 pm. The group met in person at the Rogue Landing North in Wedderburn for a discussion of local school issues.

The April 2023 All-Member meeting took place on Thursday, April 20, 2023, starting at 5:30 pm. The title of the talk was “Special District Elections: A Clerk’s Eye View.”

The April 2023 Central County Unit met in person on Friday, April 14, 2023, starting at 4:00 pm at the Rogue Landing North in Wedderburn. The topic was Toxins on the Sea Floor.

The March 2023 Central County Unit meeting took place on Friday, March 17th, starting at 4:00 pm. The group met in person at the Rogue Landing North in Wedderburn for a discussion of the offshore wind energy project under consideration for Curry and Coos Counties.

The February 2023 Virtual All-Member Unit meeting took place on Thursday, February 16th, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm via Zoom. The topic was “Redistricting & Other Election Reforms.” The discussion was led by Norman Turrill, past LWVOR President and current LWVOR Action Committee Governance Coordinator.

The February 2023 Central County Unit meeting took place on Friday, February 10th, starting at 4:00 pm. The group met at the Rogue Landing North in Wedderburn for a “Meet and Greet” for Central County LWVCC members, current and prospective. Small, local discussion units are a long League tradition before the pandemic. With this gathering, the Central County Unit initiated a return to in-person local unit meetings.

2022 Unit Meetings

The November 2022 All-Member Unit meeting took place on Thursday, November 17th, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. The meeting was a post-election review, in which members discussed results and topics of interest arising out of the local, state, and national elections in November.

The September 2022 All-Member Unit meeting took place on Thursday, September 15th, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. The meeting was a virtual all-member Round Table, aimed at giving LWVCC members the opportunity to inform the board about their preferences on local league issues of any kind, including ideas about future member meetings.

The April 2022 All-Member Unit meeting was held on Thursday, April 21st, via Zoom from 5:30 to 6:15 pm. Our speaker was Norman Turrill, past president of LWVOR and he discussed redistricting.

The March 2022 All-Member Unit meeting was held on Thursday, March 17th, via zoom, from 5:00 to 6:00 pm. We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with a relaxed, Irish-themed meet-and-greet.

The February 2022 All-Member Unit meeting was held on Thursday, February 17th, via zoom, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Michael Winston, Interim Dean of Instruction at Southwestern Oregon Community College, Coos Bay, discussed The Future of Community Health Education.

The January 2022 All-Member Unit Meeting was held on Thursday, January 20th, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.   The topic was CLIMATE CHANGE, presented by Dr. Bill Gorham. 

2021 Unit meetings

The November 2021 All-Member Unit meeting was held on Thursday, November 18, 2021, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. The topic was discussion of the Curry County Jail with Curry County Jail Commander Lt. Joel Hensley.

The October 2021 All-Member Unit meeting was held on Thursday, October 21, 2021, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. The topic of discussion was the League of Women Voters – Oregon study, “Pesticides and other biocides,” released in March 2021. The local leagues were asked to answer consensus questions. The September 16. 2021 All Unit Zoom meeting heard from Reneé Kolen, Curry County Clerk, and Shelley Denney, Chief Deputy Clerk.
